President's Cup 2021

Международный турнир по теннису President's Cup 2021

Three international tournaments, ATP Challenger Tour and ITF Women's World Tennis Tour series, will be held at the Nur-Sultan National Tennis Center as part of  the President Cup 2021: July 11-18 - «Kerey Challenger 80» and «Tomiris W 60», and July 18-25 - «Zhanibek Challenger 80», as reported by the press service of the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation.

After a series of grass and clay tournaments, the President's Cup 2021 will essentially be the world's first hard-court event before the US Open.

In order to make the competitions more distinctive, the host decided to pay tribute to the national history, and name the tournaments in honor of the great historical figures.

The women's tournament is named after the Scythian queen Tomiris, who remained in history as a great ruler, a talented military strategist, a beauty and a wise loving mother. After defeating the Persians, Tomiris ruled her people long and wisely. Her fate gave rise to the legend of the Amazons.

The two men's tournaments were named after the founders of the Kazakh Khanate, Kerey and Zhanibek. Their names are associated with the emergence of the people who called themselves «Kazakhs», as well as the entry into the historical arena of the new state.

«President's Cup» is traditionally the largest international tournament held by the Tennis Federation of Kazakhstan. It has a rich history, having been held since 1991 and is considered as one of the most prestigious tennis events in Kazakhstan. In 2007 it reached a new level when it was held within the frames of ATP Challenger series tournaments as well as ITF Women's. Kazakhstan's top players, including Mikhail Kukushkin, Andrey Golubev, Alexander Nedovyesov, Alexander Bublik, Yulia Putintseva, Yaroslava Shvedova participated in the event. This year's tournament will be a platform for our emerging athletes: Denis Yevseyev, Gozal Aynitdinova, Dostanbek Tashbulatov, Zhibek Kulambayeva, Grigoriy Lomakin and many others. «The main objective is to gather good professional athleres from around the world in Nur Sultan, so that our youngsters could gain necessary competition practice and experience in such a challenging COVID time, without the need to travel somewhere abroad. We aspire to hold the competition at a high level with all security measures in place. Specifically note that the «President's Cup» has always had a high status. Some time ago current world's top players played at Kazakhstan's «President's Cup». They were Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov, Miomir Kecmanovic, Sebastian Korda who yesterday reached the 1/8 finals at Wimbledon and other famous players. Our tournament has become a launching site for dozens of tennis players, allowing them to open up and break out. I hope the glorious tradition will continue.» said the Vice President of the Kazakhstan's Tennis Federation Yuriy Polskiy.
