Sonya Zhiyenbayeva claims second consecutive title in Spain

Kazakhstani tennis player Sonya Zhiyenbayeva has claimed the title at the W35 international tournament held in Vigo, Spain.

In the final, the 20-year-old Kazakhstani, currently ranked No. 450 in the world, faced China’s Yufei Ren, ranked No. 332 in the WTA rankings.

Zhiyenbayeva secured the victory in straight sets — 7-6 (8-6), 7-5. The match lasted 1 hour and 46 minutes. The opening set went to a tie-break, where Sonya prevailed over her opponent, before maintaining her momentum in the second set to close out the match and secure the title.

For Zhiyenbayeva, this trophy marked her second consecutive title on the World Tennis Tour. Just a week earlier, she won the higher-level W75 tournament in Ourense, Spain, defeating Bulgaria’s Isabella Shinikova in the final.

Thus, in the space of two weeks in Spain, Zhiyenbayeva captured back-to-back titles — the W75 in Ourense and the W35 in Vigo, continuing her impressive run of form on the professional tour.
