Kazakhstan Juniors Finish Runner-Up at Junior Davis Cup Regional Qualifiers

Kazakhstan’s U16 national team wrapped up its campaign at the Asia/Oceania qualifying tournament for the Junior Davis Cup, held in Shymkent. In the decisive tie for the regional title, the Kazakhstani juniors narrowly fell to third-seeded Australia after a hard-fought battle.

The key tie in terms of qualification came in the quarterfinals. By defeating Hong Kong 2–0, the Kazakhstani team secured a place in the top four and officially booked its spot in the Junior Davis Cup Finals. In the semifinals, the team continued its impressive run with a confident 2–0 win over India.

Representing Kazakhstan on home soil under team captain Sergey Kvak were Ansar Nietkaliyev, Akhmadi Makhanov and Rodion Traigel.

The final stage of the Junior Davis Cup, featuring the four best teams from the Asia/Oceania qualifiers, will take place this autumn. Sixteen of the world’s strongest junior national teams will compete at the season-ending team event, while the International Tennis Federation will announce the host venue at a later date.
