Elena Rybakina rises to world No. 2 in WTA rankings
Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina has reached a new career milestone, climbing to the No. 2 spot in the WTA Live Rankings following her clinical performance at the Indian Wells Open in the United States. This historic ranking will become official when the new WTA list is released next week.
Rybakina secured her place in the semifinals with a dominant victory over world No. 5 Jessica Pegula. The Kazakh star controlled the match from the outset, defeating the American 6-1, 7-6.
The shift in the rankings was further solidified as Iga Swiatek (Poland) dropped to the No. 3 spot after a defeat to Ukraine's Elina Svitolina. In a compelling twist, Rybakina will now face Svitolina in the semifinals as she battles for a place in the Indian Wells final.
