Tournament favorite Timofey Skatov has reached the final eight at the ATP Challenger 50 in Shymkent. As the top seed, the Kazakhstani standout successfully navigated a challenging second-round encounter to keep his title hopes alive on home soil.

Skatov’s clash with Svyatoslav Gulin (ATP No. 526) proved to be a three-set battle. After a dominant opening set (6-2), the top seed faced a resurgence from Gulin, who leveled the match with a 3-6 second set. However, Skatov regained his composure in the decider, breaking early and holding his nerve to close out the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Next Up: The Quarterfinals
Skatov will face Belarus’s Daniil Ostapenkov (ATP No. 675) for a place in the semifinals. Ostapenkov enters the match after an upset victory over Belgium’s Buvaysar Gadamauri (ATP No. 320).

Kazakhstan’s Doubles Update
In the doubles draw, Denis Evseev remains the sole representative for Kazakhstan. Competing alongside Moldova’s Radu Albot, the duo is set to face the Belarusian tandem of Sergey Betov and Daniil Ostapenkov in their upcoming quarterfinal match.
