Fans at Astana Open turn out in numbers for Thiem autograph session

With 1.4 million followers on Instagram and more than 300,000 on X (Twitter), Dominic Thiem remains one of the world’s most popular tennis players.
That was evidenced by the large turnout of fans at the Astana Open for a Thiem autograph session on Wednesday.
The 2020 US Open champion from Austria signed placards and tennis balls as part of his first ever visit to the Astana Open.

He will take to the match court on Thursday, not before 6 p.m. local time, for his opener against 67th-ranked Juan Pablo Varillas of Peru.
The players have split their two head-to-head meetings, both on clay.
Varillas won in Buenos Aires in February in a career-changing week that saw the 27-year-old reach the semifinals, while Thiem prevailed last year in the Gstaad quarterfinals.
