ATP 250 Astana Open: are tennis stars expected and where to watch them?
A month is left before the start of the ATP 250 Astana Open. Kazakhstan's capital will host the event on indoor hard court from 26 September to 3 October 2023. An impressive line-up of players will gather under the roof of the National Tennis Centre Beeline Arena. The following players are sure to play: Kazakhstan's No. 1 and world's No.26, ATP 500 title winner in Halle Alexander Bublik; winner of three Grand Slam titles Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland), Grand Slam winner Dominic Thiem (Austria); world's No. 32 Sebastian Korda (USA); world's No. 40 Alexey Popyrin (Australia) and many others.
Tickets for the matches can be purchased online at ticketon.kz.
The event will be shown live in more than 40 countries. In Kazakhstan tennis fans will see LIVE broadcasts from two courts simultaneously on the website ktf.kz. Live broadcasting will be shown on El Arna and Insport TV channels, and recorded broadcasting will be shown on Khabar, Channel 31 and Qazsport TV channels.
Many tennis fans are asking questions: why this year Astana will host the 250 series tournament instead of the 500 series and why the semi-finals and finals will be held on Monday and Tuesday?
In 2022, the ATP 500 event was moved to the capital of Kazakhstan temporarily due to COVID restrictions in China. At the moment the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation has a perpetual ATP 250 licence and the federation will use it, but the KTF is actively working on obtaining ATP 500 status in the future. As for the final matches of the tournament, which will be held on Monday and Tuesday, due to the density of the calendar, the ATP is forced to make the schedule of several tournaments in this way - from Tuesday to next week's Tuesday.
