Kazakhstan's national team couldn't defeat the Chilean team in the Davis Cup away qualifying tie. The match of Kazakhstan's No. 1 player Alexander Bublik against Chilean Christian Garin was the decisive one. Bublik, who is ranked No. 36 in the ATP ranking, unexpectedly lost to his opponent ranked No. 102, 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.

Note that the day before the Kazakh player Timofey Skatov brought the winning point to the Kazakhstan team that eventually became the only one. Bublik lost in both of his matches. The duet of Aleksandr Nedovyesov and Andrey Golubev also lost in the doubles match. Now the Kazakh team will have to play a Davis Cup playoff in September 2023, in order to qualify again. The draw will be held on February 9.
