First-round action continues on Tuesday at the Almaty Arena, as two local talents join the No.5 seed on the Day 2 slate.

Here’s a look at the five singles matches scheduled for Day 2.

Aleksandar Vukic vs Marko Topo
Head-to-Head: First meeting

No.84-ranked Vukic, one of last year's semifinalists, looks to continue his fine form against German qualifier Marko Topo in Tuesday’s first match on Center Court. Last year the 29-year-old Aussie took out James Duckworth, Adrian Mannarino and Frances Tiafoe in straight sets before falling to eventual champion Karen Khachanov 6-4 in the third in the semis.

277-ranked Topo is bidding for his first ATP win – not just of the season, but his career.

Nicolas Jarry vs [WC] Timofey Skatov
Head-to-Head: First meeting

Local fans will be backing 24-year-old Skatov as he bids for his first win at an ATP event since last July. The world No.236 will have to deal with a hungry Chilean. Jarry reached the second week at Wimbledon for the first time this year, but has lost six consecutive matches since to fall back out of the Top 100 at No.109.

[5] Brandon Nakashima vs Hamad Medjedovic
Head-to-Head: Medjedovic leads 1-0

Two fast-rising stars on the ATP Tour will clash for the second time on Tuesday, as fifth-seeded Brandon Nakashima of Southern California takes on 22-year-old Hamad Medjedovic of Serbia.

Their lone previous meeting was also on an indoor hard court – and also in the round of 32 – where Medjedovic took out Nakashima last year, 3-6, 7-6, 6-3, in Belgrade.

This time around 34th-ranked Nakashima will come in with more confidence. The 24-year-old already has 30 wins on the season, three more than he achieved all of last season, and he has enjoyed a strong Asian swing, with a semifinal in Chengdu and a quarterfinal in Tokyo.

The winner of this clash will face third-seeded Flavio Cobolli in the second round.

Laslo Djere vs Alexander Shevchenko
Head-to-Head: First meeting

The Center Court night session promises to be an electric encounter featuring 2024 quarterfinalist Alexander Shevchenko, fresh off a semifinal in Chengdu, and former world No.27 Laslo Djere, winner of the Santiago title earlier this season.

Shevchenko, whose mother is from Kazakhstan, officially commenced playing under the Kazakh flag in January of 2024. He says the change has been great for his game.

«It feels natural to represent this country. I’m proud to play for Kazakhstan and really enjoy being part of the team.»

Shevchenko has admirably fought through a knee injury this season to keep his spot inside the Top 100, as his nation’s second highest-ranked player.

«There was even a question about whether I needed surgery,» he told the media on Sunday. «But with treatment and injections, we managed to stabilize it, and in the second half of the season, I started playing much better. I’ve earned a lot of points and climbed back. I’m proud of how I handled it. It has been difficult, but I fought through.»

Tristan Schoolkate vs Adam Walton
Head-to-Head: First meeting

One singles match will take place on Court 1 on Tuesday, and it is an all-Aussie affair, for the right to face second-seeded Daniil Medvedev in round two.
